CULT OF THE DEAD COW (cDc) Publishes New Book -- Commodork: Sordid Tales from a BBS Junkie
cDc communications sez:
Author “Flack” to promote book at Emergency Chicagoland Commodore Convention (ECCC) on Saturday, September 30th.
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 26, 2006 -- CULT OF THE DEAD COW (cDc), a prominent group of technology activists and inspiring thought leaders, proudly announces the release of "Commodork: Sordid Tales from a BBS Junkie," authored by cDc Ninja Strike Force member Rob “Flack” O’Hara.
Flack will be on hand at the inaugural Emergency Chicagoland Commodore Convention (ECCC) on September 30th at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Chicago Lombard to sell and autograph copies of the book. The book is also available online at: http://www.lulu.com/content/381416.
Long before the World Wide Web and high-speed Internet arrived, computer-based Bulletin Board Systems (BBSes) ruled the land. This book is a tribute to those times, when "high speed access" meant 1200 baud and 5 1/4" floppies were king.
Jason Scott, director of the film BBS: The Documentary, says, "I'm always seeking out people to tell their stories from a personal perspective, or at least take a good shot at putting together the human side of the whole BBS era for the sake of those who missed it. If I'm lucky, I stumble upon a few sites where people do a great job of cobbling together what they didn't throw out from their teenage years. I might even find an extended story out on a website, spanning multiple pages. But with Rob O'Hara's book, I believe we have the world's first BBS memoir."
Commodork contains stories about warez, hacking, and general debauchery. Before the "World Wide Web," there was the "Wild, Wild West." Retro-computer fans will relate to the tales contained within. And those too young to remember the BBS days will wish they had been there after reading this book.
ABOUT CULT OF THE DEAD COW
Founded in Lubbock, TX, CULT OF THE DEAD COW (cDc) is the most influential hacking group in the world. The cDc alumni list reads like a Who's Who of hacking and includes a former Presidential advisor on Internet security, among others. The group is further distinguished by publishing the longest running e-zine on the Internet (est. 1984), stretching the limits of the First Amendment, and fighting anyone or any government that aspires to limit free speech.
